Categories and Tags are essential tools for organising your blog content. They help your readers find related content easily and improve the SEO of your website. Here’s how you can use them:

Categories

Categories are broad topics that group your posts. For example, if you have a blog about cooking, your categories might include “Appetizers,” “Main Courses,” and “Desserts.”

How to Add Categories:

  1. Navigate to the Categories Section:
    • Go to your WordPress Dashboard.
    • In the left-hand menu, hover over “Posts” and click on “Categories.”
  2. Add a New Category:
    • Fill in the name of your category in the “Name” field.
    • Optionally, you can add a “Slug,” which is the URL-friendly version of the name. If you leave it blank, WordPress will generate one for you.
    • If you want to create a subcategory, select a “Parent Category” from the dropdown menu.
    • You can also add a description, but it’s optional.
    • Click “Add New Category.”
  3. Assign a Category to a Post:
    • When creating or editing a post, you’ll see the “Categories” box on the right-hand side.
    • Check the box next to the category you want to assign to the post.
    • If you want to add a new category from the post editor, click “Add New Category,” enter the name, and click “Add New Category.”

Tags

Tags are more specific than categories and describe the details of your posts. For example, in a post under the “Main Courses” category, you might use tags like “Pasta,” “Vegetarian,” and “Quick Meals.”

How to Add Tags:

  1. Navigate to the Tags Section:
    • Go to your WordPress Dashboard.
    • In the left-hand menu, hover over “Posts” and click on “Tags.”
  2. Add a New Tag:
    • Fill in the name of your tag in the “Name” field.
    • Optionally, you can add a “Slug.”
    • You can also add a description, but it’s optional.
    • Click “Add New Tag.”
  3. Assign Tags to a Post:
    • When creating or editing a post, you’ll see the “Tags” box on the right-hand side.
    • Type in your tags and press “Enter” after each tag.
    • Alternatively, you can click “Choose from the most used tags” to select from tags you’ve used before.

By using categories and tags effectively, you can help your readers navigate your blog more easily and improve the overall user experience on your website.
