Creating a new post in WordPress is a fundamental task for sharing content on your website. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you create a new post, including adding a title, content, media, categories, tags, and a featured image.
Steps to Create a New Post

- In the left-hand menu of the WordPress admin dashboard, click on “Posts.”
- Click on “Add New” to create a new post.
- Add a Title:
- At the top of the editor, enter the title for your post in the “Add title” field.
- Add Content:
- In the main content area, start writing your post. Use the WordPress visual editor to format your text, add headings, create lists, and insert links.

- To add images, videos, or other media, click the “Add Media” button above the content editor.
- Upload files from your computer or select from the media library.
- Click “Insert into post” to add the media to your content.

- Check the box next to the appropriate category for your post.
- You can add a new category by clicking “Add New Category,” entering the name, and clicking “Add New Category.”

- In the “Tags” meta box on the right, enter relevant tags for your post. Tags are keywords that describe the content of your post.
- Separate tags with commas and click “Add” after entering each tag.

- Upload a new image or select one from the media library.
- Click “Set featured image” to apply it to your post.

- Click the “Save Draft” button to save your work without publishing it.
- Click the “Preview” button to see how your post will look when published.
- Publish the Post:
- Once you’re satisfied with your post, click the “Publish” button on the right-hand side to make it live on your website.
- You can also schedule the post to be published at a later date by clicking “Edit” next to “Publish immediately,” setting the desired date and time, and clicking “OK.”
