Deleting content from the media library in WordPress helps you manage storage and keep your media library organised. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you delete images, videos, and other media files from your WordPress media library.
Steps to Delete Content from the Media Library
Log in to Your WordPress Admin Dashboard:
Go to your WordPress login page (usually yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
).
Enter your username and password to log in.
Navigate to the Media Library:
In the left-hand menu of the WordPress admin dashboard, click on “Media.”
This will open the Media Library, where all your uploaded files are stored.
View Media Library:
You can view your media library in two ways: Grid View or List View. Toggle between these views using the icons at the top left of the media library screen.
Select the Media File to Delete:
Grid View: Click on the media file you want to delete. This will open an attachment details window.
List View: Hover over the media file you want to delete and you will see the “Delete Permanently” option.
Delete a Single Media File:
Grid View: In the attachment details window, click the “Delete Permanently” link at the bottom right corner.
List View: Click the “Delete Permanently” link that appears below the file name.
Bulk Delete Media Files:
If you want to delete multiple files at once, you can do so in the List View.
List View: Check the box next to each media file you want to delete. Once selected, choose “Delete Permanently” from the Bulk Actions dropdown menu at the top, then click “Apply.”
Confirm Deletion:
A confirmation message will appear asking if you’re sure you want to delete the selected items. Confirm the deletion to remove the files permanently from your media library.
