The Video Block

The Video block in WordPress allows you to embed videos into your content easily. This block includes options for adding text content, an alternative video image, and configuring the video size. Each block has a “Content” and “Settings” tab for easy customization. Hereβs a step-by-step guide on how to use the Video block.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Log in to Your WordPress Admin Dashboard:
- Open your web browser and navigate to your WordPress login page (usually

). - Enter your username and password, then click “Log In.”

- Navigate to the Page Editor:
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on “Pages” and select the page where you want to add the Video block.
- Click on the page title to open the page editor.

- Scroll down to the “Flexible content blocks” section in the page editor.
- Click the “+” button to add a new block and select “Video.”
Content Tab Configuration
- Add a Subheading:
- In the “Content” tab, enter an optional subheading in the “Subheading” field.
- Add Text Content:
- Enter the primary content for the block in the text editor. Use the formatting toolbar to style your text, insert headings, create lists, add links, and more.
- Add a Video URL:
- In the “Video URL” field, paste the YouTube embed URL for the video you want to include.
- Add an Alternative Video Image:
- If you want to use a different thumbnail for the video, click “Add Image” in the “Alternative video image” section.
- Upload a new image or select one from your media library.
Settings Tab Configuration
- Section ID:
- In the “Settings” tab, you can add an optional ID for the block. This is useful for one-page websites where you want to create smooth scrolling links in the main menu.
- Enter a unique ID in the “Section ID” field.
- Remove Bottom Margin:
- If you want the Video block to sit flush with the block below it, toggle the “Remove bottom margin” option to “Yes.”
- This removes the default margin added to the block, ensuring it aligns perfectly with the next section.
- Video Size:
- Choose how the video is displayed by selecting an option from the “Video size” dropdown. Options include default, large, or full width.
Save and Publish
- Save Your Changes:
- After configuring the content and settings for your Video block, ensure you save your changes by clicking “Save Draft” or “Update” if the page is already published.
- Preview and Publish:
- Use the “Preview” button to see how the Video block will appear on your page.
- Once satisfied, click “Publish” to make your changes live.
