The WordPress Media Library is a feature within the WordPress content management system that allows you to manage, upload, and organise various types of media files, including images, videos, audio files, PDFs, and other documents.

How to upload media files

  1. Accessing the Media Library: Log into your WordPress dashboard and navigate to “Media” in the sidebar menu.
  2. Upload New Media: Click on the “Add New” button to upload files directly to your Media Library. You can either drag and drop files into the designated area or click “Select Files” to choose files from your computer.
  3. Organising Your Media: Once uploaded, your media files will be displayed in the Media Library grid. You can organize files into folders or filter them by type (images, audio, video) or date.

Managing Media Files

  • Editing Images: Need to crop, rotate, or resize an image? Click on the image in the Media Library to open its details, then select “Edit Image” to access the WordPress image editor.
  • Adding Alt Text: Improve accessibility and SEO by adding descriptive alt text to your images. Simply click on an image in the Media Library, enter alt text in the “Alt Text” field, and click “Save.”
  • Bulk Actions: Save time by performing bulk actions on multiple media files at once. Select the files you want to modify, then choose from options like deleting, adding to a gallery, or attaching to a post.

Embedding Media in Posts and Pages

  • Inserting Images: When creating or editing a post or page, click on the “Add Media” button above the content editor to insert images from your Media Library directly into your content.
